Inclement Weather Work Page

The MLS School District will be implementing an Inclement Weather Learning Plan for the 2021/22 school year. Policy ABAC outlines our virtual learning requirements.

We are fortunate to be able to address school closing due to inclement weather through remote learning activities. This document is intended to provide background information as well as to inform you how our inclement weather days will be conducted. The closing of school for inclement weather is a serious matter and safety is the top consideration in reaching this decision. Only after careful considerations have been made will a decision on school closure be reached.

It is important for everyone to understand that these days will still count towards student attendance and will not be made up on separate days (they will not be made up on storm days). Students and teachers will be expected to participate in an eLearning (or remote learning) day.

Our preference is always to have students in school face-to-face with their teachers and peers. However, technology and planning offer opportunities to continue to learn remotely in the event of school closures. All of our students have been provided with the technology to work from home and our teachers are prepared to instruct remotely as well. Teachers will send out their individual remote day protocols.

If the decision to close the school is made for inclement weather, a remote or eLearning day will take place. The decision to close the school will be made as soon as possible in the morning (usually by 6:00 a.m.). That decision will be communicated to you through our school messenger platform (Blackboard). It will also be communicated through the television and radio stations when possible. The office and individual teachers will communicate with students regarding upcoming weather systems and the potential of remote days so that students will be prepared and advised to take devices home in advance.

Teachers will be available to answer questions by video conference or email from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Assignments will be posted to Google classroom sites by 9:00 a.m. Some students may already have digital or paper copies of assignments or projects in advance (or choice boards). Please let us know if you have any issues with receiving the assignment.

The remote day is considered a student day requiring attendance. Students and teachers are expected to participate and attendance is required. Students who choose not to participate will receive an unexcused absence unless an illness or other excused reason for absence is reported by the parent to the school. Attendance may be decided by work handed in the next day of school. Inclement Weather Days will only occur on full days off and not late starts.
